Just a little background. I've always been kind of a road geek. Especially when I was younger. We traveled all across the country and I was fascinated with all the different highways that traversed it. I even played highway planner devil's advocate, formulating suggestions of my own as to placement of highways.
I thought my hobby was unique until last fall or so, when I discovered Kurumi's site by chance (followed a link to make my own road sign). I followed other links from there. Never thought I'd see so many different sites related to my weird hobby.
I currently run a few message boards. One is a football board (http://pvsmackboard.proboards29.com/index.cgi) and I am also designing one for my old college fraternity). I wanted to do a web site to tie in with my sports board and other interests. I was tossing around ideas for a theme, and I decided to do a highway-related one, complete with mocked-up road signs and all.
And I thought, 'how come there isn't a message board for this?'. Sure, there's MTR and a Yahoo group, but there isn't really an all-encompassing board on the World Wide Web related to road geekdom. I certainly wasn't the type to let a question like that go unanswered, hence, this very board was born a couple days ago. I threw together code and custom graphics, and voila - a new board!
I hope you like it. I based much of it on sites that I visited and found interesting. And I hope it will be a nice destination for all, geeks and non-geeks alike.
