www.wtopnews.com/index.php?sid=205291&nid=25FREDERICK -- Supporters of High Occupancy Tolls lanes on a major Maryland highway are getting a powerful backer. Triple-A Mid-Atlantic is getting behind a proposal for so-called "Lexus lanes" on I-270.
The auto club believes the plan can bring an end to years of study and result in actual construction of new lanes.
Under the plan, existing lanes would be free to all drivers. When those lanes become jammed with traffic, some drivers could choose to pay a toll to use less crowded express lanes.
The tolls would pay for the construction of the new lanes.
A Triple-A spokesman says it's not a perfect solution, but he says drivers can't wait any longer for relief.
