Is my search nearly over?! I am very keen to have the whole 'Road dreams' series on vhs/dvd. My dad has been on about it for years, since it's been on the telly, it's his birthday in march, it would be a huge surprise. Please contact me and I'll send tapes, how many?: dmoxonuk@yahoo.co.uk

8-)Blimey! I thought I was alone in being addicted to Road Dreams! I have the series on VHS and often watch it...I've made sure the tab is off the cassette so it can't be recorded over! I wish Elliott would go back over the same route...with Video this time...and possibly meet some of the people he met in the 60's. I have been trying to find out the title of this short series for years ! I saw it back in 1989 on channel 4. It was absolutely mesmerising and I never forgot it. (Just the title).
Does anyone know if there has been any further progress towards some kind of commercial release. It would seem to have a ready-made market and I am pretty sure that word of mouth, and a few favourable reviews would secure some decent sales.

I too was spellbound by Road Dreams because it reminded me of a time since 1970 that I had been driving around America every year for a couple of weeks. I was involved in the tourist industry and that allowed me to then travel for six weeks in the States every year from 1978. I have covered the whole America on the "Blue Highways". For those who do not know, they are called by that name because Rand McNally maps were originally only printed in two colours, red and blue. Red were the main highways and blue were the small byways, thus Blue Highways!
I have videoed nearly all my trips since 1983 and have hundreds of hours on tapes. On one of the trips I had a tape cassette from the Road Dreams programmes and ran it through the radio on the convertible Sebring as I recorded that particular trip in 1998. I'm actually on video as saying to my buddy this is going to be our Road Dreams and so it was.
My first experience of driving America was to deliver a car from Detroit to Daytona in 1970. It was an incredible experience.
In March of 2006 I rented a convertible Mustang and drove it around from L.A. to Colorado taking six hours of video and 1200 photographs!
To say that I'm keen would be to underestimate just how much I love driving in the States.
If anybody is interested in finding those really remote Blue Highways, just let me know.

I've been a Road Dreams addict since it appeared on Channel 4 in 1990.
I've now done 6 road trips of my own since 2000 taking in many of the places seen in the programme (including New York, Boston, Bristol RI, L.A, Kingston Arkansas, Plato Iowa, Badlands, Wall SD).
I finally got in contact with Elliott about 3 years ago & have managed to obtain just about all of the music on CD and the 6 programmes on DVD.
Elliott is currently working on a follow-up called Kodachrome. We are also in the early planning stages of setting up a website to try and identify the various locations seen in the programme.
I've managed to find a lot of locations after hours of searching on the web but some are just too obscure. We hope to tap into some 'local' knowledge of US visitors to the site.

I spoke to Elliott a few years ago I too taped it back in 1989 off CH4, unfortunately my wife taped over part of it, I was a broken man as I loved to watch it! We tracked him down after a few years and he sent me a copy off the master plus a cassette of the music, a very nice man!
